Richmond
Welcome to Richmond, our beautiful state capital! Richmond lives to say "Welcome Y'all" and put out a spread. We're a Southern city, made for front porch rockers, sweet tea, college football and good food... and good food we have in plenty. Richmond is a city that runs on good food. Whether it be food trucks, award winning restaurants, food festivals, or our plethora of grocery stores, co-ops, and farmer's markets, we love to eat. We are known as the Next Great American Food City and have been featured in everything from Food and Wine Magazine to the Huffington Post (we even made USA Today's List of the Best Donuts in the USA!) In addition to food, we are now a craft beer destination. What began with local staples of Hardywood and Legend, has grown to more than 30 local craft breweries!
There is never a lack of things to do in Richmond. From year round festivals, art exhibits, sports, museums, and concerts and theatre performances, the city is alive and full of energy. Have a love for sports? We are home of the nationally loved VCU Rams and Richmond Spiders, follow football with the Richmond Kickers, and host the Flying Squirrels Baseball team.
More into the arts? Visually, the city boasts it's love for art in the murals painted on the Canal Walk and buildings throughout downtown and our weekly art walks. When it comes to experiencing art in person, you can't miss the world-renowned VMFA. Broadway and big names make their presence known in our Altria and Carpenter Theatres, but local talent is rich too with Firehouse Theatre, TheatreLab, and Richmond Triangle Players, putting on award-winning performances all year round. If music soothes your soul, watch it take motion in the Richmond Ballet, or just listen and rock out with our stellar music venue, The National.
Now maybe you find living in the past a great way to spend your time? Richmonder's know their history and they love to share it, whether it be a trip to the American Civil War Museum, showing respect to those who passed in Hollywood Cemetary, or reciting you poetic verse from the Edgar Allen Poe Museum.
Richmond also offers a wide variety of options to explore the great outdoors. Named Outdoor Magazine's Best Town Ever, there is no shortage of parks, trails, and river activities to partake in. In addition to our parks, we have several outdoor experiences that are well known and well-loved: Maymont Park, Belle Isle, Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens, and the Metro Richmond Zoo are open year-round and are great for the individual and the family.
